In March of 2005, Joey was diagnosed with having Neurofibromatosis (NF) at just two years old.  NF is a disorder in which nerve tissue grows tumors that cause serious damage by compressing nerves and other surrounding tissues.  There is no known cure for NF today.

With a lot of hard work and determination, Joey has fought tirelessly.  He has gone to many different doctors, undergone countless medical examinations and tests, all while working especially hard to keep up with the rest of the kids in school…

Joey had surgery at age 3 to demass a portion of the tumor and again at age 5 to remove his tonsils and adenoids.  Both surgeries were performed to keep the tumor from cutting off his airway.  Over the past year, the tumor under his left ear suddenly grew larger and began to threaten causing serious permanent damage.  Something had to be done.  On July 13, 2010 Joey underwent a major surgery in order to demass his plexiform tumor.  The operation was a success and doctors removed about 90% of this tumor.  Joey is now recovering; unfortunately a large part of this operation is not covered by insurance because it is considered to be an aggressive form of treatment by their standards.

To help pay for this surgery, future care and operations Joey will need as he continues his lifelong battle with NF, his friends and family are hosting a benefit on Saturday, October 9,2010 at The AmericanLegion in Lockport, IL.
